Walleye-10.25# Steelie-12.75# Coho- 12# King 23.5# Brown Trout 8# Lake Trout 16# Smallmouth Bass 6#

2007 concludes:

I will eventually publish a summary of 2008 but for now these pics. of the final trip and hour will do the talking !

November 25th:

Fished with 2 friends and my Son-Noah today. Started at 1pm and it was cold and windy. The Bay waters were very dirty today and it took some time to find some active fish. We concluded by boating 8 Steelies out of 13 bites. Returned all 8 fish to come visit us another day. A great conclusion to the fall fishing where we limited all 11 trips in November excluding today's "fun" trip. We fished from 1pm to 4:30 pm and enjoyed our afternoon greatly.

November 23rd:

Today I had 3 clients from Butler-They took "MY" challenge and headed up to fish a half day charter despite the forecast. (1-3" of snow and higsh of 32-35 degrees-wind chill in the 20's). It paid off because they were headed back to Butler with their 9 fish limit, frozen feet and smiles on their face. A 9 for 14 morning in just under 3 hours.

November 19-20-21:

Three more great days of fishing. Boated 43 Steelies out of 80 bites while fishing less that full days each outing. Limits continue. Presque Isle Bay and Channel remain the place to be. The challenge has been finding the spots, dealing with weather/wind and weeds. Some days we find the fish out deeper and sometimes along shore and structure. Recently, diving Gulls helped a few more fish die. The Bay is 44.5-45.5 degrees and headed down...

Dreamweaver Super Slims, Bombers and deep Nitro Shiner Kabooms continue to pummel the Steelies.

November 13 and 14th:

Tuesday was a total catch and release day. Boated 16 Steelies and had 30 bites today. It was a beautiful November day-maybe too nice. Dead flat water slowed things a bit and a TON of weeds floated all over the Bay. The weeds constantly killed our program. We would have 10 fouled baits at one time-OFTEN. It made things very difficult and hampered the program. However, we pulled together a good days fishing for the crew despite difficult conditions.

Wednesday was a semi-catch and release day, and was just opposite-BIG Winds and some rain hampered where we had to fish. Spent half the day in the lake where we were somewhat sheltered and the weeds were not as prevalent. Boated 15, kept 9 for the smoker and returned the rest. It was not easy again but we hooked up 25 fish by 2PM. Still a very good November day of fishing. The next several days are going to be BIG BLOW days with cold temps which may make the next trip a challenge. To be determined. Boated 31 Steelies while hooking 56 the last two days.

November 9th-10th-11th:

November is still red hot for Steelies and toss in a Musky, Northern Pike or Bass. Limited each day before noon while getting 25-32 bites each morning. Super Slims continue to be HOT off riggers and in-lines.

Fishing will remain good until the water cools down. Boated over 50 Steelies while hooking 90 these past three days.

November Begins:

November started with a bang.. Back to back BLOOD Baths. 46 steelies Boated, 74 hooked in two days and 10 TOTAL hours of trolling. Plus, another bonus Musky. Super Slims have been smokin' hot fished in the right zone.. Heck, they even caught both of our recent Musky's.

Expect top notch-world class Steelhead fishing this month with a bonus Musky thown in if you are lucky.

October Ends:

After winds settled, fishing was back on... Good Steelie action is ON at the stream mouths and P.I. Bay. Things will only get faster and better as the water cools and more fish arrive. Will U. be there??

October 14, 2007:

Took a late start today due to an unsettled Lake (12ft. waves on Saturday). Headed for the trench where we beat the fish last weekend. However, surf temps. were 8 deg. cooler and the seas were still high. Fished one hour with no bites and an unfavorable Lake-Getting Worse. The Lake finally flipped over... This was to be our last effort at the deep water fishing for 2007'. Ran back to the shelter of the Peninsula and worked outside the channel/Lampe Marina. A stiff Northwest wind allowed us to fish one area only today. However, we boated 9 fish for 13 bites in 4 hours. Bonus 33" N.Pike mixed into our catch. Photo shows 7 Steelies because we took our 8th just after the photo shoot. (Ate a custom painted Bomber). Surf. temps down to 60 from 68 last weekend. The inshore Steelie fishery has started and will only get better as the temps. cool down.

October Reports:

Wow has it been nice so far this month. Steelies are grouping up and the Eyes are winding down. Fishing is great offshore!!!!

End of August-First Week of September Fishing Reports:

Fishing has remained good with some days a little better than others but good fishing overall. We are catching some Steelhead mixed in with the Walleyes and have been targetting a mixed catch mostly. We have been boating a minimum of 15 or 16 fish, even on the few half day trips that we have run. The Steelhead fishing should only get better as the season moves along and the Walleye fishing should hold steady as long as the weather stays sound. I expect some BIG Steelhead catches coming soon and will be solely targetting them more. Most of the fish are deep in the water column right now but we are still catching some suspended Eyes. Current surface temp is 71 degrees.

August 17-20th Fishing Reports:

Well we have had some mighty big winds inbetween our trips which scattered the fish a bit and made them a little more difficult but as you can see from photos below, the winds did not slow us too much. We have been averaging over 20 fish per day and even did 22 on a recent WET and RAINY trip that we cancelled at the half day mark. Our catches are consisting of Walleyes and Steelies. The Steelies are putting on a show.... While the Eyes are the bacon. The fish are suspended from 45 ft. down to 75 ft. and we are using a variety of techniques to reach them and cateh'em! Fishing should be strong into mid September for both species and the size of the fish should only increase as the cooler days/nights will trigger the feeding binge.

July/August Report thru-Aug 12th Fishing Reports:

Fishing has been very good for Walleyes and we are catching Steelhead mixed in as well. The better Steelie fishing has been offshore away from the Walleyes but most people want the Walleyes. Limit catches have been pretty common and we expect strong fishing to continue right into September.

Recently, Team Vision Quest V captained by me finished 2nd in the Erie, PA Sport Fishing Association 2nd annual Pr0-Am Team Tournament. Team Vision Quest IV, captained by Mike Hinkel took 6th place. A great showing for both Vision Quest charter Boats. See more info. on the Tournament reports page... Check out the pics below of some of our recent trips....

June/July Combined Fishing Reports:

My schedule has not allowed many individual fishing reports so here is a little recap. The days I have ben in New York-Lake Ontarion fishing some charters and tournaments will be located under the (Tournament Reports Area). There will be some pictures and results (mostly good).

Lake Erie Walleye fishing has been fair to good. Below are pictures of some half and full day trips. Fishing has been somewhat inconsistent and the Walleyes have been from about 58 f.o.w. inward toward shore. The bulk of the fish have been the 2003 class sized fish and they are 18"-22" in size with a few big fish mixed in. Recently, we have been catching bigger fish with several 7.5# to 9.5# fish mixed in. We have not chased Steelhead much this month and have not caught many because we are not offshore. Our best trip to date was a (50) fish trip. (44 Eyes and 6 Steelhead by 1:30pm).

Check out the tournament report area for more photos and tournament results. Captain Pete

June 18th:

Ran a half day afternoon trip from 2:30-8:30. Fished 45-60 f.o.w. just west of port and boxed 17. (13) Eyes amd (4) Steelies. Missed 3 more Steelies and a couple Eyes. It was good fishing except for a lull when the lake flattened to glass conditions. Ended the trip with a quad... Boated 3 of them. Steelies were absolutely CRUSHING the rods today. Today it was the WD alewife show. Both regular and blue were hot in the clearing waters. Also took some Eyes on the metallic Brown Trout shallow diving Kaboom fished behind a Big Jon Diver disc.

June 17th FATHERS DAY

Went fishing today with a good friend and two of my kids; Noah (age 8) and Maya (age 4). These kids like to fish. Took our time getting going in the AM and fished from 7:30-11:30. Boated (15) fish and lost (5). Landed 9 Eyes and 6 Steelies. Kids reeled in most of the fish this AM and it was a nice way to spend the morning. Blueberry Muffin WD's and SS's did a lot of the damage as well as the SS shrimp and Absolute Cranberry inthe WD. Will be back on the Lake this coming Friday and Saturday...

June 16th

Fished from 6:30-1:30 today and never got into the fish good. Started in the same spot as Friday but the bite as not as fast. A decent pick most of the day except when we went on a "look troll". We did not find much as we trolled to the east and back and should have stayed in the same spot but we went looking for a honey hole... Still ended with a nice box of fish and some large Erie Eyes... Divers rarely fired today and most of the fish were caught on Big Jon diver discs and jets with WD spoons trailing behind.

June 15th

The bite started fast and stayed good until the 30th Eyes hit the deck at 11am. It was good fishing this am in the 42-50 ft. depths. Jets and Diver discs did the damage as well as divers set back 90 to 130 on 3.5 setting with Super Slims.

Blueberry and Green Muffins, Fire Tiger and Absolute Cranberry did the damage and there was not a need to change many spoons today-fishing was pretty easy and the Lake was perfect. Had several fish over 5# and 7 fish over 7#.

Walleye Fishing is Good right now. Fish are close to port and we are catching a good mix of year class fish. Steelies are starting to show up a little deeper and outside of the Walleye Schools. Now is the TIME!!!!!

Niagara-Skip Hartman Pro-Am:( Olcott, NY): 5th place

Bad info..., that's what I had when we arrived at Lake O. Kings fishing and Coho fishing had slowed and was a tough bite, hmmmm. So, we devoted our pre-fish day looking east for Steelies and Coho with a 12-fish plan in mind. Day 1 plan was to catch 12 silvers-big or small and we almost did this. We started off 0 for 6 and finished 7 for 21 while targetting steelies and Coho-they hadtheir way with us... At the weigh-in, we discovered some nice boxes of Kings and Coho being weighed in. hmmmm. Bad info. We ended 24th of 44 after Day 1.

Day 2, we changed our plan and went King and Coho fishing in the same spot as the leader and some top 10 teams. Plan worked and we boxed out next to them, while the leader only tok 4 fish..... We took mostly Kings and Coho with fish #12 being a 25" Steelie. Today was just opposite of Day #1. We boated the majority of our bites and the entire program, including spoons and presentation changed. However, we dialed them in quickly and charged all the way to the 5th place spot. We took the majority of our fish on magnum VQ alewive, VQ green alewive, greasy chicken DW spoons as well as a few Coho on green flies and bab Spin Docs ran high on mono-divers. Riggers, cores and divers all contributed to our 12 fish box.

Our strong Day 2 finish boosted us and we were able to win "The Best of The West" Challenge Cup. The Cup is an award and cash given to the team that accumulated the most points during the (2) west end Lake O. Pro-Ams=Olcott and Oak Orchard.

Orleans County-Oak Orchard Pro-AM: (Orleans County, NY) 2nd place

After running some charters and our Friday pre-fish day, I felt pretty good about having the fish and spot dialed in.. We took limits of good fish up to the tournament. Team VQ won the Pre-Fish derby on Friday by weighing in the largest King on Friday-a good start to things and good for $180 cash...

Day 1, we headed 24 miles West to the sweet spot and were rewarded with a 12 fish box late in the morning. Our Team took care of business quickly while landing 12 of 15 bites. We headed back, fueled up and prepped for Day 2 while waiting for the weigh-ins to start. Team VQ was in 1st place after Day 1.

Day 2, we decided to fish deeper and try to selectively harvest larger Kings in the AM. The plan started good and we were into quality fish right away. Then things slowed down and we begin to miss fish after fish. Our 2nd consecutive wire diver fish was missed even though it was ripped hard and screamed. GONE AGAIN! That was the 2nd of 4 fish that crushed the divers but never died. Our "picture" totally evaporated and we were looking for 3 more fish. We ended up getting 2 more and losing 3 and went to the weigh in with 11 fish, one short, did I say, one short? We weighed in last and fell 5 points short, a 1/2 of a fish short. The winning team boated 3 in their last 15 minutes of fishing to "eak" us out of 1st place=KARMA. However, they did not enter the "Calcutta" which gave us an added bonus of $2,000 in cold hard cash-nice... So close but yet so far. Tournament rule #1 "EVERY FISH COUNTS" was really applicable in this one...

Scotty Downriggers Spring Tournament:(Lake O/St. Catharines ONT): stroked it.

After three days of fishing-looking-scratching my head-wondering- I asked myself if I just came back from Lake Huron? Nope. Fishing was tough for us over the two tournament days and we struggled to find/catch fish each day. Our pre-fish day was our best day of the three BUT did not count. The Laker fishing was good but they don't count. So, like most of the teams in this years event-WE FISHED FOR FISH that were not there yet. Lake O. is still very cold and the Kings have not arrived in good numbers yet. There were some fish for the taking if you were on them in the AM. We were not. We boated 32 fish in the three days but the majority were Lakers with some Kings, Coho and a couple Browns mixed in. The water was so cold, that on our pre-fish day, we trolled in to 6-12 f.o.w. looking for pods of Coho but managed to catch Lakers- Non-Stop, in those shallow waters. Hats off to this years winners. This is the first time in the 6 events we have fished at the Spring Scotty that Team V.Q. did not weigh our 5 Salmon in on each day and we managed to not do it on back to back days this year...

Team V.Q. will be back.. Heading to the Orleans-Oak Orchard Pro-Am Tournament next on May 26-27.

May 23-24:

Fished (2) charters out of Olcott NY on Wednesday and Thursday with a great crew all the way from the state of MO. They had a blast. Fishing as good as we boatedover 30 fish including a few dinks (put back) in a day and one-quarter- Yes, we were back on Thursday at 9:30 with 15 silvers on ice... Best baits were DW mags and regulars in Green Alewife, Yellow Belly Wood pecker, purple icicle, black-purple glow and baby Spin Docts and Aquaman Flies. We fished 60-200 f.o.w. and caught a variety of sizes. Biggest was 23# and we took a #12 Coho.

May 19th - 20th:

Fished out of Olcott NY Saturday late AM to PM and Sunday AM til 10. Fishing was pretty good after we dialed them in... Fished 135-200 f.o.w. and found fish from 25-80ft. down. The Lake is still cold and no thermocline is set up so the silver critters can be-----anywhere. Saturday we were 8 for 13 and Sunday 15 for 20.

Dreamweaver regular and Mags did well as well as the wire divers with Spin Doctors and action Flies. The diver/flasher combo.produced better on Saturday under calm sunny skies. We boated 23 silvers which included a few small-skips and fish up to 21#. We had a 19# fish take our wire from 110ft. to 640ft., he died...

May 4th:

Fished today under tough conditions. 5th day of NE winds and cold and choppy. After a few dismal hours, we decided to raise the flag and do it another day-good choice.

April 27-28-29:

Up in Lake Ontario to fish the Scotty Downrigger Spring tourney. The Laker fishing was good for us but the Salmon fishing was not. Struggled each day to find fish but could not do it tis year as defending champs. Ouch! First time in 6 events at this tournamnet that Team Vision Quest did not weigh our 5 fish each day. The Kings have not materialized yet due to COLD water and very few fish were caught as compared to past years. There were a lot of Zero's each day and being in the right spot each morning was the key to scraping up a few of the FEW fish that were there. Beter days ahead as the lake warms up. We boated 32 fish (many Lakers)over the three days and missed several more, including some good Kings but could not find enough Salmon to contend in this years event.

April 22nd:

Fishing was tough today for 2 reasons. Dead flat water and many many weeds floating in the Bay. We worked hard on our half day trip to box 7 Steelies and 1 Brown as well as a nice Smallie(released). We finished 9 for 16 on our half day trip. It was non-stop weed cleaning as recent winds riled up the Bay and no wind allowed this debris to float all over the place. With little wind to push the debris, we had to constantly pull debris from our baits and reset lines. However, we were fishing in out T's by 10am on a bright and unseasonably warm, April day.

April 21st:

Good fishing in PI Bay again today as we landed 17 fish out of 30 bites in about 4 hours of fishing. Had a lot of rips and flying fish get off today for some reason?? However, that's Steelie fishing at it's finest. 1 color cores with WD and Super Slims were hot as well as shallow Nitro Shiners off the boards. Fishing will remian good a slong as water temps stay on the "cool side"

April 20th:

Hot bite today as we boated 26 fish by noon. 1 color cores off boards with WD and SS Dreamweaver Spoons as well as rigers with SS spoons fished 5 to 12 ft. down. Fishing was awesome today in PI Bay. Took 2 Bonus Browns also on SS spoons. It was good to be back on the water after the poor weather blew out... Finished 26 for 35 today.

April 15th:

Had to cancel our outing due to the forecast of 1-3" of snow overnight and into Sunday, NE winds at 20-30 knots and balmy temps. of 34-38 degrees. However, that allowed me to catch up on some reading with my youngest son, Colton Isaiah and our favorite magazine: Great Lakes Angler.

April 14th:

We were finally able to get out after two cancellations. Water temps were still cold, very cold, however the bite was hot. We missed our first two fish of 07' but then caught fire. There were 7 fish flopping in the box before we knew it and we were well on our way to a 5-man limit. We boated 25 Steelies, one Brown Trout and one 35" Northern Pike (on a little WD blue alewive).

Not bad fishing for 6 hours of efforts.... Majority of our bites (38) came on spoons. The Dreamweaver WD and Super Slim did the damage. We did take several fish on the Daves Kaboom Nitro Shiners with orange, purple metalic, and black silver producing the best.

Riggers fished 5 to 10ft. with differing leads and one color cores with spoons off boards did the spoon damage. Nitro's fished 80 back worked well off the boards. Sunday's trip now looks questionable due to the forecast...
